Performance environment employing video and sounds collected from the Halifax harbour on a sunny day.
A projection fills one wall of the space, showing images of light reflected from waves. The clip plays forward for 4 seconds and backward for 3.9 seconds, creating a rhythm of light ripples that slowly advance through the video sample. The video is treated with luminance keying; a ramp on the tolerance parameter of the key causes light to flood the screen and retreat in waves.
Two video cameras focus on small areas of the projection; these zoomed-in images play on video monitors at the sides of the room. The sound work involves live manipulation of water sounds mixed with samples treated via spectral processing in MAX/MSP. |
